Games are an investment. First a lot of games are expensive, so you have already put a big investment into the actual purchase, but once you have them it's important to protect those pieces. It's not like you can go out and buy replacement cards for games and from wear and tear of just playing the game the cards will wear out, plastic sleeves will protect the cards from that. They are also very important for those occasional spills at the table. If a friend spills some soda, a card that falls in it are much more likely to be ruined than a card that has a sleeve on it.
I also bag up the components for a game. It does increase the put away time for the game, but you save that the next time you go to set up the game. The pieces are also protected and much less likely to be lost when the game is on the shelf.
If you decide later that the game is not for you, a game that has been sleeved and bagged with no missing parts is much more likely to get the return on investment for the game.

Kickstarter and board games
In my opinion, Kickstarter is a positive influence on board games in general. Kickstarter allows so many creative people a platform to put their ideas out there and get backing to make them a reality. It's amazing to me how many new ideas for board games arrive on Kickstarter every day.
What I Love About Kickstarter
There so much variety on there and you can get details about the product your backing and even sometimes get involved in the design that you will be receiving. You can follow the designers work and get updates along the way. There's always new ideas to explore and enjoy. Often you forget you backed something and it can be a surprise when you finally receive it.
What I Hate About Kickstarter
As much as I love the number of items to look at, there's definitely too much to back. I hate that there are so many KS only benefits to backing a game that you can't get unless you back the item. I really wish some of these groups would make that content available later for a price, you can still have it be free to benefit the backers, but available to others for a charge. I hate that you back it and often don't receive it for many months later.
Again, I still think KS is good for board games, but I would like to see the industry make a few changes on how they use the platform.
Introduction
Hello, I plan to blog about board games, give board game reviews, and generally talk about topics related to gaming in an unplugged world, so if that interests you stick around and hopefully I will have some topics that interest you.
